Description

Japan Ministry of Finance 5 Yen ND (1872) Pick 6 JNDA 11-4 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 Net. An impressive example of this rarest denomination type. Interestingly, these vertical format notes were printed in Frankfurt, German States. The 5 Yen seems to be the rarest denomination of the series, which is seldom offered in any grade. A handsome series of notes that must be fully understood to be appreciated. In fact, there are similar looking banknotes series issued by the Japanese in their colonies: Korea, Taiwan, China, Kiau Chau, and Russia. This example, however, is a genuine example from the first series of 1872, and at the time of cataloging, remains the finest graded example in the PMG Population Report. Foreign substance is noted. From the Yuri Solovey Collection of Japan and Territories
