Kwangtung. Kuang-hsü 5 Cents (3.6 Candareens) ND (1889) AU55 PCGS, Kwangtung mint, KM-Y194.1, L&M-132, Kann-25, WS-0940, Wenchao-561 (rarity 3 stars). Denomination written as 3.6 CANDAREENS. A lofty grade for this second series minor to be sure, just a single example achieving Mint State and ranking finer across NGC and PCGS combined, and the single finest we have ever offered. Though a bit flatly struck atop the characters, the overall definition of the devices is thoroughly impressive, both when considering its small size, and its usually less careful production, this being the first issue set for circulation after the disaster of the hoarding and melting of the earlier series. Softly darkened toning accents provide a heightened contrast to the design elements while a golden glow pervades the fields.
