Kirin. Kuang-hsü 50 Cents CD 1908 AU58 NGC, KM-Y182b, L&M-577, Kann-570. Variety with province name written in Manchu characters in center of the reverse. Incredibly scarce and remarkably difficult to procure so near Mint State, with a mere two of eleven certified examples achieving that level at NGC and none seen by PCGS, the surfaces overflowing with original satin texture and lightly radiant flow lines towards the edges, a salt-gray patina tinted with sky blue pervading throughout. While classically weakly struck in the obverse margins, the reverse characters appear bold and uncharacteristically well-defined. For reference, a VF25 example hammered for $5500 in Stack's August 2015 Hong Kong Auction (lot 52361).
