MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR tetradrachm (26mm, 17.18 gm, 7h). NGC MS S 5/5 - 5/5. Late lifetime or early posthumous issue of 'Amphipolis', under Antipater, ca. 325-323/2 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lionskin headdress, paws tied before neck / AΛEΞANΔPOY-BAΣIΛEΩΣ, Zeus seated left on backless throne, left leg drawn back, feet on dotted ground line, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; Athena Promachus standing right in left field. Price 109. Boldly struck and graded mint state with the coveted star designation - NGC only awards two higher grade distinctions.
