Description

Dutch Colony. Wilhelmina copper-nickel Proof 5 Cents 1921-(u) PR64 NGC, Utrecht mint, KM313, Scholten-858. A very scarce issue in proof grades, as affirmed by the fact that the present offering is the only specimen of the date certified by NGC, the stamp certainly razor-sharp and almost flawlessly executed. The designation of this issue as a pattern on the holder appears to be a misnomer, as the standard strikes were all produced in copper-nickel, holed--to differentiate them from the silver--, with a plain edge. Neither the SCWC nor Scholten mention patterns for this date and denomination, though the SCWC mentions that for the 1911 pattern the word PROEF is inscribed below INDIE on the obverse.
