Italian Republic. Napoleon copper Specimen Pattern 8 Denari (20 Lire) 1804-M SP55 PCGS, Milan mint, KM-Pn24. An extremely rare pattern, the first that we have encountered from this short-lived experiment between the division of the Cisalpine Republic and the creation of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy--for which only patterns are known. The outer legends appear strong with fiery red accents in spite of an overall soft and uneven nature to the strike, striation-like adjustment marks across both faces, but nevertheless a must for the serious Italian collector.
