Description

Edward III (1327-1377) gold 1/4 Noble ND (1356-1361) MS64 NGC, London mint (cross mm), Fourth Coinage, Pre-Treaty Period, S-1498, N-1191. +ЄDWARD (saltire stops) DЄI (saltire stops) GRA (saltire stops) RЄX (saltire stops) AnGL, royal shield within octolobe / +ЄXALTABITVR (saltire stops) In (saltire stops) GLORIA, cross fleury within octolobe, lions in angles, tiny Є in center. Incredibly difficult to locate in such near-gem status, some light traces of die rust visible, but no signs of rub or significant abrasions to speak of. The edges appear slightly irregular, though this does not encroach on the legends as often occurs on even very round pieces. From the Butler Family Collection
