Description

Napoleon gold 40 Francs L'An XI (1802/3)-A MS60 NGC, Paris mint, KM652. A notoriously difficult and already scarce issue to pinpoint in Mint State grades, as is indicated by a population of only 6 examples of the myriad seen by NGC surpassing the designation. Stemming from Napoleon's brief period as Premier Consul prior to his coronation as French Emperor, the piece at hand portrays the young man in a slightly idealized, yet still rather lifelike likeness. While admitting the usual contact marks for the type, diagnol die polish lines can still be found around razor-sharp peripheral legends, lending an indelible air of quality.
