Estados Unidos gold 2 Pesos 1885/74 VF35 NGC, Medellin mint, KM-A154a, Sedwick-35, Restrepo-327. An extreme piece of numismatic ephemera and one of only four possible known noted specimens. Not listed in any reference works until 1983 and originally produced as part of a three-piece set, as Colombia issued no gold coinage from 1878 to 1913, with the exception of the aforementioned trio. This wholesome example shows observable wear, though evenly dispersed, an intriguing die crack running down the "UNIDOS" to the bust, and a bit of a soft central strike on the reverse. The legends are completely defined with the fascinating ".666" fineness clearly legible and a testament to the context in which this magnificent piece was created.
