An excessively rare single-year early republican type with virtually all known pieces poorly produced, the piece at hand certainly stands among the better preserved examples of the type--preserving what is comparatively a bold strike for the issue, neither cleaning hairlines or lacquering visible. As a point of comparison, a lacquered specimen graded VF Details by NGC achieved $1100 in Ponterio & Associates's December 2010 Hong Kong Auction (Lot 293). Ex. Norman Jacobs Collection
