Description

Salzburg. Maximilian Gandolph Counterstamped 2 Mark 1681 VF30 NGC, KM-Unl. (with this host), cf. KM243 (for host). Displaying oval 1681-dated Arms of the See of Salzburg stamp (AU Strong) on a Carl XI 2 Mark 1664-IK of Sweden. A most intriguing piece, featuring an absolutely gorgeous stamp on a highly unusual host, as the SCWC notes that the application of these counterstamps were applied almost exclusively to German coins circulating in the archbishopric. Very puzzling and enticing as such, and sure to excite amongst bidders.
