Description

ZEUGITANA. Carthage. Second Punic War. Ca. 216-211 BC. AR quarter shekel (14mm, 1.91 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. Punic mint in Bruttium. Ca. 215-205 BC. Head of Tanit facing left, wearing reeds in her hair, ear pendant, and thin necklace; thin linear border / Horse standing right; linear border. SNG Copenhagen 335. Nicely centered with light mottled toning. Although the mint for this coin is conventionally placed in Sicily, Crawford convincingly places it in Bruttium near the end of Hannibal's time there.
