Small Roman gold finger ring with garnet Intaglio
1st – 2nd century AD; diam. int. mm 11; gr 2,29; A small gold finger ring with garnet Intaglio depicting a butterfly on a plinth.
Probably belonging to a child due to the smallness and for the presence of another little ring joined to it, perhaps for a twine to prevent loss. In Roman time butterfly symbolized the soul leaving the body.
