A splendid puteal in aurisina stone
Italy, 11th century; alt. cm 82; A circular puteal with four finely decorated sections carved with plant motifs, rosettes and stylized animals, amongst which are peacocks, dolphins and griffins.
An exceptional example of decorative finesse, the plant and animal motifs are reminiscent of byzantine and eastern creations.
PROVENANCE:
Italian private collection (Venice).
Currently in Italy, but with an export licence issued by the Republic of Italy.
