A collection of black-glazed ceramics
4th – 3rd century BC; ; A rich collection of black-glazed ceramics, some of which are miniature, probably of Tyrhennian or Magno-Grecian production. Amongst them are skyphoi, oinochoai, lekythoi and various types of one and two handled vessels; distinct from the rest is the cothon, typical of the Picena area, with a rotund and compressed body, a single handle and a rim that curves sharply inwards.
They have all been subject to top-quality museum restoration.
PROVENANCE:
English private collection, purchased in 2000s from Herakles Numismatik und Antiquitäten GmbH (München); previously acquired on the European art market in the 1970s.
