Lead seal of Petros stratelates, (6th cent.)
Diam.: mm Weight: gr. Condition: VF. Brown natural patina. It is to mention the lenticular shape of the seal.
Obverse: Block-monogram, reading as ΠΕΤΡΟV (Of Peter).
Reverse: Inscription in 3 lines: CΤΡΑΤΗΛΑΤΟV (Stratelates).
Stratelates was a middle-rank military office at that period (cf. Kazhdan, Alexander, ed. (1991), Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium, Oxford University Press, p. 1965).
